Cat Eye Problems - Signs to Be Aware Of
94
Cat Eye Problems should be extremely important to the cat owner. Cat's eyes have special characteristics that set them apart from other animals. Most dogs use a combination of sight, hearing and smell to become familiar with their surroundings, whereas cats depend mostly on their eyesight for hunting and stalking their prey.
Cat Eye Problems can be spotted if their eye waters, if they blink, squint, paw at their eye or give any evidence that their eye is painful. A special characteristic of the cat's eye is their exta eyelid, which is called the nictitating membrane. If this extra eyelid is visible then your cat most likely has an eye problem.
The first thing that you need to do is to examine the eye to see if you can recognize the cause. The best way to examine the eye is by using a single light source such as a flashlight, preferably in a dark room. You can prevent the cat from panicking by using a pillow case that is pinned around his neck, in order to restrain him.Remember, If the cat is frightened his eyes will dilate preventing you from making an accurate observation.
Frequently you can get a clue to the cat's eye problem by comparing one eye to the other. Look to see if the eyes are of the same shape, color and size. See if they bulge forward or are recessed backwards. A discharge might be present or the eye may be cloudy, hazy or smoky. To test for vision, cover one eye and touch the other several times with your finger. If the cat has vision he will blink when your finger approaches.
Problems with the eye are accompanied by several signs and symptoms. The most serious is pain. If your cat has a painful eye, you should seek immediate veterinary attention.
Some of the signs and symptoms of Cat Eye Problems are:
Eye Discharge - A clear discharge without redness and pain indicates a problem in the tear drainage system.
Any discharge in addition to a painful eye should alert you to the possibility of Cornea or Inner eye involvment.
A thick, sticky mucus discharge along with a red (inflamed) eye indicates Pink Eye or conjunctivitis.
Painful Eye - Signs of pain include squinting, tearing, tenderness to touch and avoidance of light. The nictitating membrane may protrude in response to pain. The common causes of painful eye are injuries to the Cornea and disorders affecting the inner eye.
Film over the Eye - A whitish or opaque film which moves out over the surface of the eyeball is a protruded nictitating membrane.
Cloudy Eye - Loss of clarity or transparency in the eye indicates an inner eye disorder. Disorders that can cause a cloudy eye are Keratitis, Glaucoma and Cataract.
Hard or Soft Eye - Changes in eye pressure are caused by disorders of the inner eye. The pupil might become fixed and fail to respond to light. A hard eye with a dilated pupil indicates Glaucoma. A soft eye with a small pupil indicates inflammation of the inner structure of the eye.
Irritation of the Lids - These are conditions which cause swelling, crusting, itching, or hair loss of the eyelids.
Bulging or Sunken Eye - These are abnormal contours and positions of the eye
Abnormal Eye Movements - These are eyes that focus in different directions or jerk back and forth
Cross-Eyed Gaze - This is common among Siamese cats, and is accepted as normal, however other forms are caused by muscle paralysis.
The source and diagnosis of Cat Eye Problems can usually be determined by one of the above symptoms. Pay very close attention to your cat to see if he/she exhibits one of them, and see your vet if necessary.

there is NO WAY my cat would ever let me rap him up in a towel robe and he fights the peice out with me when I try to put drops in..
Thats one well behaved cats... but mine would never allow me to do that.
And I agree with the teeth cleaning... there is no way under the sun my cat would allow me to clean his teeth...Hes a good cat really .. just doent like me working around him.
does anyone have any idea about why a ragdoll would have what looks like blood around the edge of her eye
My 2 cats have sores in the corners of their eyes. My vet gave me some wash to apply every day--it happens every around the beginning of winter and the beginning of spring. I was told it is allergies.
my cat gives birth to 4 cats ... one of theme has one eye that delayed opening. So that, I applied a cotton with warm water on it it opened but it seems to be cloudy " hard to see the pupil " ... I went to the vet and he just told me to wait for about one week then he will decide what to do .... I really worried about this cat ... please help me if u can.
I have a question actually, my cat just yesterday her eye got cloudy, this was literally overnight, so I do not think it is cataracts or glaucoma or anthing because I would imagine it takes longer to contract than just one day.
She just recently a couple weeks ago had some teeth & ear surgeries, and was tested for everything prior, she has no diseases, she is perfectly healthy, and is an indoor (only) cat. So that rules out leukemia, herpes, etc.
her eye (the right one only) she keeps squinted most of the time, but when she opens it, it looks a little.. cloudy sort of, a bit lighter than the other, and a little watery. I can't see the inner eyelid (as best as I can tell) and has no discharge, although it does seem a little more watery than the other.
She sleeps mos tof the day normally, and I don't think her activity level has decreased at all, and she eats & grooms herself normally.
I assume she has probably just scratched it?
We are already paying out of our savings for her previous surgeries, and she is still on the antibiotics, so provided it is not too serious, I would prefer avoiding another expensive vet trip. (although should her condition change for the worse, the vet is down the street & we will not hesitate to take her in).
I was just mostly concerned that perhaps she has scratched it, or maybe it is an infection, in which case she is still on the antibiotics from before, so that should help clear it up, or if it's a scratch, is there maybe anything i can do to help the healing process?
ok thanks a bunch.

Thanks hglick for responding, as it turns out, it looked cloudier to me today than it did yesterday, so we went ahead & took her in to the vet.
I have forgotten the name of what it is, "Grand Uviola" or something like that, it is a Spontaneous Hemmorrage of the Eye.
She was given a shot, and 2 types of medicine, one to help heal the blood vessels, and one which is basically an antibiotic eye drop, she was also given some additional antibiotics to give orally.
Apparently this can happen at any time for no reason, suddenly, and can cause blindness among other problems.
Tuffy personally is doing fine, her eyesight has not been affected, and it is apparently relatively painless.
So yes, i hope this helps someone else maybe who might have a sudden cloudy eye, and it doesn't fall under one of these categories. ;)
thanks again

I have to give my poor cat eye drops pretty often, and my srategy is to gently grab her legs and arms and stick her between my legs facing the opposite of me. I can hold her in place and quickly give her drops before she freaks out. She absolutely hates the towel trick, although I wish otherwise as that looks much better in the video.
Our 2 year old domestic frequently tears (clear, not thick) from his right eye. He lets me dap it with a kleenex so I assume there isn't pain. He is wonderful otherwise. Does this sound like anything, or should I look for other patterns? Thank you. This is a great site and you are kind to answer concerns. Our vet is not much help.
My cat has a problem with one eye. It seems to come and go so I thought it was allergies. When it didn't clear up, I took him to the Vets but they didn't know what it was. They did give me 2 prescriptions to try - Terramycin and Viralys gel L-Lysine HCI. His eye looks OK for a few days then acts up again (actually it's not his eye it's the area all around the lid, top and bottom. It is red then gets a brownish red soft scab like substance on it then starts to clear up but within a few days is back again). This has been going on too long now and I'm not sure what it could be, what to do about it etc except maybe go to a different Vet. He doesn't have any other symptoms - he eats good etc. Any ideas?
Hi hglick...i have a ten year old tom cat who recently while taking his photo ive noticed that only one eye is lit up on the photographs when i get them back.Ive never noticed this before.
Before looking at him normal both his eyes were lit up..is this just the camera or have i got something to worry about..he got diagnosed with a heart murmer two years ago but is otherwise in good health.
Hi, thankyou very much for your information...i no were to come again if anything thankyou.
My cat for the past few months has had just one eye that slowly closes and opens at random and I just thought it was because of my ceiling fan blowing the air in her eye. Today I noticed that her eye has been watering more and I just saw her paw at it :( :( :(....
There is no discharch or cloudy film nor any redness. There haven't been any issues other than it opening and closing... it seems cute, but I'm concerned.
HELP ME PLEEEEEASE!!!
Hi hglick,im back sooner than i was expecting sorry...but today i noticed other than the photograph just one of his eyes are lighting up,its very noticeable in the dark (when hes in a good mood)we thought it was just the camera didnt we but what about this...is it his age (10)it doesnt seem to be bothering him...do you think i should take him the vet, what would they do.Thankyou for your help.
I just noticed my kitten has one of his eyes half closed most of the time and it discharges a yellowish goop.what could this mean?
...also we recently moved and after about 2days,my kitten wouldn't eat as well as it use too......I'm disturbed.
Thankyou.
Hello! My cat recently started having drainage coming from her left eye. It is a little red on the bottom. It actually started off in her right eye and I would just clean it with warm water. Her right eye is fine now. I was wondering if there is anything I can do for her at home. Can I put (human)eyedrops in her eye? I can't really afford to go to the vet right now as my husband just got laid off.
Hglick, Thank you soooo much!!! Her eye still opens and shuts a bit but the tearing has stopped. I think it was due to the humidity in the air with my apartment. I'm still watching her everyday for any changes and everything seems to check out. If anything further were to happen I will definitely take her in to the vet. Thanks again!!! :)
Hi,
I was after a bit of advice.
My friend has 4 kittens, and where 3 of them are perfectly fine, one of them has a problem with her eyes. When she is looking at me, Ive noticed that her eyes arent focused on me at all. Instead, the pupils are in the top corner of each eye, seemingly focusing on two different places at once. Its awkward for me to describe, but it looks as though she is doing the opposite of being cross-eyed.
Does anyone know what this could be? And do you have any links to websites for information about what it could be?
Cheers!
Stef
Hi I have an 8 year old seal point Siamese and have for over the past month noticed that her right eye seemed
"glassy". Today I noticed it bulging out and the pupil seems to be fixed and dilated with some extra darkening around the pupil. She has been acting strangely (even for a Siamese), but I chalked that up to adopting a 6 month old black "lover boy" kitten from an agency at my local Petco almost 3 weeks ago. I also have a four year old "pound puppy" mut. The Siamese is always a "pig" about food but was off her food for a few days. That seems to have improved, but the eye is worse. The kitten had a lot of runniness in his right eye when we got him, but has stopped and the Siemese had been "glassy eyed" even before we got the baby, so I don't think the problems are related to the kitten. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Thank you hglick for the information. She is booked to see her vet first thing on Monday morning. I put her symptoms in a checker and some disturbing things came up, besides wht you suggestedk such as; Calicivirus and Feline Infectious Peritonitis, both of which scared the heck out of me. She had vacines for FLV, so it can't be that, but I just pray that it's something very treatable, for her sake (and mine)and NOT infectious, especially with the new kitten here. Thanks again.
A few days ago my cat started to get this white and yellowish discharge from her right eye. Then the next day she wasn't opening it fully. Can someone help me i love my cat very much i don't want her to be sick, is it an infection or something or allergies? =[
Hi hglick. I just wanted to let you know where we stand as far as Sienna's eye goes. My vet didn't have the equipment to acurately gauge the pressure, but he did do a full blood work panel. We saw an Opthalmalogist on Wednesday and he said she has "Primary" Glaucoma (Aparently quite rare in cats) - In her case, probably inherited (Siamese "Mill").He said the good news is that he didn't see any tumors or other disease process, but he did say she is already blind in that eye and it should come out. We were devasted and it was made worse by the fact that she is sick with a virus from the new kitten. Both vets assured me that she has already been coping with it and will be, not only fine, but possibly more "kittenlike", because she won't have the pain (that we didn't know about) anymore. Her left eye is fine, but we will take her back to the specialist every 3-4 months just to keep it that way. Thank you for your very knowledgeable answer. You were right on the mark. Oh...she bit me very hard on Monday when her vet took her temp! I didn't know that cat bites can be very dangerous. I had to go right to my doctor and get a tetnus shot and be put on Doxycycline. I just should have had a better grip on her - Poor thing! If I had know about cat bits I would have. Thanks again.
thank you. very informative and helpfull material. god bless
Thanks so much for this hub and for the info you have provided in the comment section as well.
My kitty is in good health, but you can never have too much info! :)
Great hub! :)
My 2week old kitten got a scrach on its eye. It all closed and crusty should i clean the crust off?
Hi there
My cat (3yrs) favors her left eye. According to our vet, he thinks she had Cat Flu as a kitten. She is and has always been very snuffly, sneezy, snoring - and she struggles to purr.
Recently, I've noticed tears fairly regularly out of her right eye, which is often not completely open. It also appears that there is an ever so slight swelling under her right eye. She allows me to clean the "tears" and "sleep" out of her eyes, with no fuss.
I am ruling out cat fights as she is a completely inside cat.
Over six months back, we took the to the vet as there was some redness and she was rubbing it. He suggested she was allergic to seafood in her cat food which has now been completely eliminated.
I am concerned. Can you suggest anything I should consider?
Thank you in advance.
I have a 20 year old female cat and recently noticed her one eye pupil doesnt respond to light..it stays wide open..no cloudiness or discharge present and other wise seems a healthy kitty...does this mean she is blind in that eye
Hi!
I have a 13 year old cat, "Miss Mollie" who has brown pigmentation at the bottom of her right eye. It is not very dark and is contained in the iris. She has had it for a very long time. It does not seem to bother her at all. Should I be worried and what is it?
my 8month rag dolls eye is cloudy dialated and between his eye and ear seems to hurt also doesent seem himself doesent want to play at all with his buddy kitten im so worried when i bring him to the vet id like an idea please help
I have four cats, all of whom are out door cats, yet very sweet lap cats, all mixed breeds. We live in Cambodia with few veterinarians, and the veterinarians we do have here have had very little education. More often than not, they treat without giving a diagnosis. Two of my adult cats (Ki-Ki and Music) have a sudden problem that has lasted for two days now. There has been what looks like a white eyelid slowly crowding over and half covering both of the eyeballs of each cat. I asume that this is the "protruded nictitating membrane." This problem came about rather suddenly, and is accompanied by terrible diarrhea in one of the cats and possibly the other cat as well. Can dehydration cause the protruded nictitating problem in the eye? Or could this be a bacterial infecftion of some kind. We took both cats to the only vet around, and he said he did not know what the problem was, but told us to buy an eye antibiotic. (That is the classic animals that doctors give animals and humans over here.) I can get almost any kind of medication for humans here at a pharmacy without a perscription, but there are almost no medications for animals here. Do you have any suggestions for us? We sure would appreciate some help! Thank you so much!
Excellent hub - you have great information on pets. Thank you, Kartika
Hey , my cat always has red brownish ( that i thinks its blood) at the edge of her eyes , and i keep on cleaning it with cotton swaps , but i dont know what it is exactly , and whats the right thing to do , so please help me.
Thank you.
Thank you so much! (:
I went to work yesterday and my 3 month old kitten was fine. When I got back home that evening I noticed that her left eye was slightly opaque. She was just at the vet and had a whole workup done and her second set of boosters, and the vet said that she was healthy. She doesn't appear to be in any kind of pain or discomfort, and there is no discharge. I haven't noticed any lull in her activity, and she's still eating and drinking water. The only two symptoms I've noticed are the cloudiness and a slight squint. I'm just really worried because this came on in around 6 hours while I was out of the house, and she was just at the vet a couple of days ago.
I would appreciate any kind of help. Thank you.
My Cat had all sorts of eye problems that would come and go, then return very quickly. My Vet and I figured out that she is allergic to fish. Sine I changed her diet, no more eye problems!
My cat Bella, has this "morning Glory" thing as we call it.. like the mucus in our eye after we wake up in the morning... I usually clean it up, but then a few hours after , it comes back... I bathe her about once or twice a month, but it comes back again...
My other cat is clean.. and she cleans her face with her paw... and she doesn't show any signs of that mucus unlike Bella's.. What should I do... HELP!
If your cat is having eye problems please say out loud now Jesus I believe and I accept you in my heart please help me.
I hope this helps
I noticed two or three days ago that my cat was sneezing a lot and his eyes were watery.I took him to the vet and they said he's fine,no other symptoms,no fever, etc.Today he is sneezing hardly at all but he's squinting with his one eye.Any idea what it could be?There's no colored discharge or redness or anything.
I have two cats, one who is almost a year and one who is about 3 years old. My three year old cat seems to have some kind of cloudiness in his right eye, with what looks like tiny bubbles inside the eye. This is only on his right eye, and his left is fine. Its been this way for a while now, but I want some more information about his problem before taking him to the vet. This is because the last time I took my cats to a vet, they gave him 3 of the same antibiotics, just under different names! This cost a fortune, and I don't want to be tricked like this again.
I love my cat very much, please help.
I have a 17 year old male, neutered, indoor cat. Just a few days ago, he started bumping into walls and I'm guessing that he may be blind. Otherwise, he is fine, i.e. using his litterbox, eating, drinking. I have not noticed him cleaning himself as much, but his fur is still shiny. We just moved a month ago from Ohio to southern Arizona. I made an appt. for Louie with a vet for tomorrow. Is there ever any hope of treatment after a cat loses sight?
My cat Shadow has had an eye infection for about three days. Me and my mother have cleaned it and the eye is looking so much better then it was, but He will not eat, he sleeps for longer then usual and he will not go to the litter box. Pleas help. I'm so worried about my little boy.
My cat Zoe is 1.5 years old. Just the other day I noticed both of her eyes are faceing the outer corners. Her nictitating membranes are in fact visible and she appears to be squinting. There is no reddness or discharge. I have not noticed a change in behavior. She does go outside daily and does not appear to have had any trauma. I am hopeful that she does not have a tumer. I cannot afford to have an MRI or Catscan done. If anyone has a clue about what may be going on I would greatly appreciate your imput.

Hi, my cat keeps getting a tearful eye. Always her left eye, the pupil is much smaller on that side and it seems as though the lower lid could be very slightly swollen. The other eye seems fine but the pupil is very large. The tears last for a few days normally and then she is fine again, but it seems to be reoccuring. I have read from your comments that tears can be linked to respiratory problems, well i know that my cat has bronchitus and sort of asthma and sometimes she struggles to catch her breath when she is purring, but she does have an inhaler for that. She is an inside cat 99% of the time and only sits outside the door if she is outside, so its unlikely to be fighting. Any insight into what else could be causing the different size pupils would be greatly appreciated though. Thanks.
I have a 2 weeks old kitten..its eyes are not open yet..the other kittens open their eyes already..this few days, there are pus around its eyes and sometimes blood..the fluid coming out from its eyes are pale greenish-blue in colour..and the eye lids are swollen..i don't know what i'm suppose to do.. please help me.. thanks..
My cat is about 9 years old and I have noticed on the edge of the green part of her eye there is a small dark patch which is a very dark brown colour. It doesn't seem to cause her any problem but I'm concerned it might be getting bigger. If it is, it's very gradual. Many Thanks.
My cat has an eye that has gradually changed color over the course of the last two years. Recently though, the eye has been tearing. She also seems to be less active and is throwing up more often. The vomit appears to be clear usually or white. I introduced another cat into the house almost a year ago and her symptoms seem to have gotten worse. I don't have a ton of money for vet visits. Any ideas?
I got my cat's kittens out the other day and one of the kitten's just had one eye open. And another one of them had one eye open and the other was like half open. What could this mean?
I have a neutered male indoor house cat who is around 9 years old, within the past week I noticed that one of his eyes has a pinkish red hue around the iris. He does not seem to have any pain associated with this. Is this something I should be concerned with? Any help is appreciated.
hiya guys an gals... about 3 months ago or so one of my two cats had a clear discharge from its left eye... it seemed toclear up by its self in two weeks... now 3 months later my other cat (both of which are sisters) has got the same thing from the same eye, its very strange... could this be a simple "allergie" or where they have caught each other while fighting? or should i worry and take them both to the vets? they dont seem to be in pain with it, just the clear discharge and lots of winking :)... please help.
hi i have i big question i hope you can answer my cat was outside and when he came in side i saw his left eye you could see the third eye lid and it was red can you help me
one of my cats eyes is watery and a little red and she seems to close it most of the times is it something serious? and how could i treat her?
my 14 week old kitten has a bulging right eye and it weeps a little bit. she doesnt seem to be affected by it - grooming and eating is all fine and she still purrs like a machine! im worried because her eye seems to be getting bigger, and the pupil is quite big under a layer of opaque film. she also has a swollen upper lid. i have taken her to the vet and she is finishing a course of antibiotics now, the vet said she had a headache and inflamed eye lids (we could see her third eye lid too) but should be fine after the antibiotics. should i take her back to the vet? the eye also appears hard and is about twice the size of the other eye. please help, we're not very well off with money at the moment and i dont want to pay for a vet trip that is not worth while. (although if needed i will be more than happy to take her to the vet). Please help!
Earlier today I was cleaning my cats ears and right afterwards one of her eyes was squinted and the third eyelid was exposed just in the left corner and her other eye is way more dilated then the other. I don't know if maybe when she shook her head some solution got in her eye but I rinsed it with water in case. Both her eyes respond normally, is it just irritated or should I be more concerned.
My new little 9 wk old kitten has this thick, yellow discharge that builds up on the outside of her eyes, usually right at one corner or the other. Should I be worried? My husband and I aren't exactly wealthy but I don't want this kitten to end up blind because we didn't take her to the vet when we should. Is this problem fixable without a large vet bill? Help!
My cat is squinting with his left eye. His right seems to be fine. He'll open both eyes all the way for a second when he hears a noise or something grabs his attention, but within seconds he goes back to only having the left eye half open. It seems to have a little bit more discharge than the other eye, but nothing too dramatic. I tried looking last night to see if the whites of his eye or if the lids looked red or inflammed, but the don't seem to be. Is it just conjuctivitis or is this something else?
Hi. My cat suffered from Bell's Palsy after Vestibular Syndrome earlier this year. One of her eye's was unaffected but the other become stuck open. It was no problem and we didn't have to use drops or anything as her third eyelid would flick over it ocassionally keeping it moist. The eye sustained no injury and there's been no problems with it.
Anyway, she's slowly gained back movement in the area and she can now mostly close that eye(about 90%) and she is not able to squint it.
However, in the last few days I've noticed it looks smaller than the other eye. It's almost as if the skin/muscles around the eye have shrunk. I can widen her eye by holding the skin around the area so I don't think the eye itself has shrunk.
Her lip on that side had dropped with the Bell's Palsy but has now sprung back and I wonder if she lost some of the chewing muscles on that side of her mouth?
Both eyes pupils are fine, responding to light normally etc. She is eating well, happy, doing all her normal things. The eye has no discharge, is not sore or discoloured and otherwise looks normal.
We're seeing the vet for a checkup in two weeks but just wondered what your thoughts were. Is there anything we can do for it? Any exercises/stretches? Will it go back to normal or is is stuck like that?
Thanks so much for your time!
Sorry that should say:
"Anyway, she's slowly gained back movement in the area and she can now mostly close that eye(about 90%) and she is NOW able to squint it."
What a great hub! I have posted a link to your hub on my cat blog 'A Cat's Tail' on blogspot.com

hey, a week ago i noticed my cat (bella) who is a year old having a watery eye, there is no redness or any colour change, her 1 eye is just more watery then the other and tears don't run down her face or anything, she doesnt scratch her eye. it's like she doesn't know anything about it, but i'm concerned coz it's watery.please advise thanks
My 8 year old burmese cat acts sort of blind when it is bright out. If I bring her inside she seems to be able to see perfectly but when she is outside she walks very cautiously, bumps into things occasionally and struggles to find her way to me when I call her. She showed similar symptoms last summer but they went away as the weather dulled. I have also noticed a loss of appetite lately although she doesn't appear to be losing any weight. What could be the problem?
My cat has what looks like scratch on her eye, should i take her to see a vet, just to be safe?
I found a liter of 3 kittens about 6 weeks old outside in the dirt under a bunch of metal. One is fine and healthy looking. The second one has dirt brown discharge from both eyes , but is improving. The last one has the eye discharge and eye crustys also is sneezing on and off during the day. They all eat fine , play, and use the bath room. It's been about a week and a half sense I found them and wanted to know if they need a vet because I'm lower class. Please help me I really need it and would appreciate it.
A little information I forgot to say about the kittens when I found them there eyes were red but not any more and they rub there eyes sometimes. Thanks again.
Thank you so much hglick.
Just this morning I noticed that my cat is keeping his left eye closed, or he squints when he looks at me. The inner corner of his eye appears puffy and he seems to tear but allows me to dab away the fluid. I looked at his eye and other than the fact the inner corner is puffy he seems normal, blinking away when my finger approachs the eye. Do you think this is some sort of an infection, or perhaps an issue with the tear duct?
Do you recommend seeing a vet right away?
Thank you so much for taking the time to respond.
Hello there, this morning I noticed my cats upper eyelid is swollen. And he has a little bit of discharge but not much. The actual eye itself looks fine, they both look normal. He doesn't have any problems holding his eye open but it seems a bit painful for him to close his eye. It almost looks like a stye, but I haven't been able to find much information on styes in cats. He is indoors but we do have another cat that they do fight sometimes (but I can't see any scratch marks.) He's sleeping, eating, and going to the washroom just fine, nothing out of the ordinary. Please help - what should I do??
My 5 week old kitten has what looks like bug eyes. They are way to big for her face but I know that they're are cats who have overly large eyes they're entire lives anyway. Should I be worried about her bulging eyes and if so what could be the problem? Thanks !
i found a baby kitten this mornign at a gas staoin. she is a siamesepossibly mixed. she has the bue eyes and the dark tail ears and nose. shes really lethargic. i bathed her to rid her of her flea ifestation and she actually purred. i was surprised bc she was so ferrel when i first picked her up. i cleaned her face and nose well but green mucus keeps acumulating in the outer corners and she has a runny nose. is this common or is this bc of her malnitrition.
she was dehydrated and starving when i found her. the ribs would show if she didnt have so much fur.
anyway any idea if its a cold or something of the sort or something more serious? possibly caused by the many fleas and/or malnutrition.
My Kitten can closed her eyes normally as far as i can tell. Thanks so much for your help! im taking her to the vet as soon as they can fit me in so hopefully its nothing serious, thanks again!
Hi, my cat was taken the vet and they gave her some anti-biotics for her eye. well they dont seem to be working...her right eye has got the third eye-lid out all the time...just a little. and above the eye and in the corner it looks swollen, like the corner of her eye-lid seems to be tearing bc it has swollen up so much. She is also sneezing quite a bit. The sneezing used to have a pink discharge sometimes, but i havent seen that since we started giving her the anti-biotics. do you have any idea what this might be??
My black cat Symba that I love and is really just the coolest has me really worried. He seems sick. He's a trooper and a really cool little guy but he has a clear discharge coming from his right eye only, but the eye isn't red and looks completely normal, there is just much discharge coming from the eye. He also seems to be doing this wheeze and cough almost mixed with a purr at times. Also his "meow" if off, and sounds distorted/deeper. I am concerned about him. I just walked into this tonight could he be sick? Or, I am wondering if maybe he just got into a fight today with a neighborhood cat or small animal. Thank you!
My cat of 12 years has had a op on one of his eyes as the Colour changed a pinky red liquid was coming out. The vet said he'll be ok.
But now within 2 days of picking him up and dtit he's taken out his good eye is now black and pinky red liquid coming out. Any advise ease.
Thanks Anna
hey guys i have a kitty which i found on my yard about 4 years ago. she had something strange in her eye dont remember exactly but her eyes were grey.. my mother went to the pharmacy and got some eye drops which eventually had cortizone in and got one eye fucked up with the cat able only to see shadows and the other sees aprox 70% clear now. it was a horrible mistake i still regret for it :( anyways about 2 weeks ago we came back from 3day vacations and her eye which sees only shadows was closed and we took here to the vet. we found that a small stick got inside here eye not on the eyeball inside here eyelid which is under the eye :S cause its wild the doctor had to make her sleep and took the stick out. then she gave us some eye drops to put in her eyes. they were called TOBREX, we had to use them 3 times a day, if we couldnt do it all the 3 times was at least 2 and her eye got back to the previous state. after 10 days when the stick was removed her eye started dripping tear with blood in it and it had something like a pimple on the eyball but it was red..so this week we took her to the vet again and she said that the wound opened she had ulcer in the eye , the one of the 3 eye layers was destroyed and the liquid of the cats eye is coming out from the wound and at the same time there is an infection in the eye. she gave her an antibiotic shot and told us to keep using the eye drops but the eye will never see again. we called our ophthalmologist and he said to use an antibiotic creme and eye drops every hour and not to use the other eye drops the vet gave us ( the ophtalmologist is educated on cats also he had done a surgery on his own cat before and he was the one who told us what eye drops to use when we found her 4 years ago and her eye got better..) we try to use the medication the ophtalmologist gave us but my cat's eye hurts so much that she wont lets us to put neither of the medication without 2 peopl putting here down :( its like her eye starts to deflate and i am very worried about her. she is only 4 years old and has passed so much torturies anyone know what to do if possible to save the eye? :s
thank you for the fast answer,it helped very much i now know more about her situation. Can you also tell me if the eye deflates when liquid comes out or is it just swollen cause of her problem?
After using the antibiotic creme and the eye drops our opthalmologist gave us her eye got rid of the liquid and the infection. Her eye has also returned to normal and there is only that pimple i was refering in the first post :P We talked to the opthalomogist again and he told us that its gona go away slowly with the antibiotic creme with the eye goign back to its previous state(at least seeing shadows. I really thank you for your help and the helpful information :)
My cat Nitro is one year and a half, he appears to have the same symptoms that "Moranda-Knuckles" in some previous comments. He has been with this for a month already. His level of activity has decrease, he stays under the bed all day, for the past 2 days he is barely eating. His left eye is darker (redish-brown) than his right one, which looks completely healthy and green. His pupil doesn't respond to bright light, it doesn't get smaller like the right eye, it will only get bigger in the dark.
When he started with the eye problem his inner eyelid will be visible and his eye will be squinty, not anymore. We thought he was getting better but his eye still dark color, and with a red dot on the inferior right corner.
We took him to the vet 3 times already, they are not sure what is it. they did the eye pressure test and it was low, which they explained is better than high.
they medicate him with 2 different drops, but he doesn't seem to get any better.
We schedule a visit to the ophthalmologist but they have nothing available until 2 weeks from now.
do you have any idea what could it be??
Hi, we have a stray cat that doesn't look more than 2 months old. He's very playful and friendly. Just over night his right eye looked different. The pupil became dilated and was sensitive to light. Over the course of the next couple days there was a yellowish discharge and now the eye seems to remain half closed. He doesn't seem in pain, he eats and plays just the same. What can we do for this poor little guy??
My one year old altered male cat has a red eye that's slightly swollen with tearing, which he holds shut most of the time. The inner eye lid is also red. It started a week ago. I've been treating it as Pink Eye. But there seems to be more. He sleeps all the time and is not very active. He use to go outside for about two hours every morning. Today he had a loose stool with a tinge of blood in HIS litter box. He was a healthy boy until I adopted a 5 month old kitten from a shelter one month ago. My cat, Woody, has had all of his shots. He never had the 'kennel-cough' shot because I got him from a friend's mom cat when he was 11 wks old. (he is not coughing). The new kitten is very active, and has had all 3 FVRCP and a FeBb. The FeBb was given on the day I got her. Her only apparent problem was ear mites which I got treatment for and a 14 day course of ear drops. During this time I kept her away from my other cat. I let them interact after two weeks apart. My Woody boy likes to bath her. What could be wrong with my Woody boy!??? I am trying to get to a vet tomorrow but $ is tight. I hope you can answer. Thanks!
...I wanted to add to the post above about Woody the cat and the new 5 month old kitten. The kitten has had a clear runny nose that builds to the point that she has to sneeze. This started during the first week I had her and I thought it was due to the ear drops, but it is still happening......
The vet said give her a half teaspoon of Benadryl. That she must be allergic to something in my house. (what?)
Hi my 14 year old cat has this brownish/blood looking color leaking from her eye and it seems that she has problems closing and opening her eye. Do you have any idea on what it could be??? And what I could do to help her?
Hey, my kitty has got the third eyelid on both eyes occasionally, he seams to get them most often when he is tired and sleepy, otherwise they vanish, but than they reappear again. any advice?
My cat has a cloudy eye on and off for the last few weeks. Sometimes it is very cloudy and we wonder whether she can see out of it and other times it is almost normal. What do you think this could be?
Hi, my three year old cat monty is keeping his eyes pretty much closed, pawing at it occationally, and is only opening it when something distracted him. I cant see anything wrong with his eye except that it is watery and slightly red. This came up about 20 minutes to an hour ago. I dont know if my other cat Chev scratched the inside of his eyelid(or he did) or if somethings in there (which I cant see anything.) What should I do in the scenario bc its late at night and no 24 hrs vet services around here? I thought about putting warm water in his eye but decided against it bc I dont want to irritate it anymore.
Hello we recently purchased two cats for the spca they both started to have watery eyes and some coughing, so the spca gave us anitbiotics for them both, they both got better then one of the cats started to have worse eye problems in both eyes so we took him to the vets and she gave us a antibiotic ointment we stick in the eyes 3 times a day, he seems to barely be able to keep his eyes open and when he does you can see the inner eye and his eyes are still so red and swallen too the antibiotic seems to not be working we cant keep affording to run him back and forth to the vets its a shame too cause the spca makes the customers wash hands between petting the animals but they have a bunch of little kids volunteering there and we didnt see them wash there hands once in the 3 hours we were there they kept going to cage to cage playing with the kittens i am nervous this one cat has something really serious with his eyes??
Hi there Ive been reading thru this page and I wonder if you could advise me. Ive had cats for 20yra and volunteer at the Cats protection league. I took a kitten home to feed her up as shes 11weeks old but looks only 4weeks old in size. She has been checked by a vets and they said she has a slow heart beat and will diagnose what the problem is when shes bigger. The problem is I have taken photos of her and her iris comes out bright blue!! I can't find anything similar on here so Im a little worried it could be something bad like a tumour! please help...
hi i have been taking care of now a week goin on two week old kitteen i dont not kno what the sex i think its a girl but today in the evening i discoverd my kitten's left eye is swollen there is not sign of crust or discharge aound the eye and it is eattin well and has been kept well my mother and grandmother say it may be swollen dude to the other kittens ( ones its sibling and the other is another i found the same day which is a week older ) either scratch it or something im very concern for the lil guy can anyone please help
Thank you very much for your advice it has helped to put my mind at rest, she has so much wrong with her that would've been too much for the cats protection to handle. I hope she can get a new home now without trouble. This is an excellent page and thanks for taking the time to answer me.
Great hub useful information keep up the good work.
my new kitten is squinting her eye and she also has this greenish discharge the develops in the corner of her eye.. i really dont have the money right now to take her to the vet so ive been taking a warm wash cloth and cleaning all of the stuff off around her eye.. it doesnt seem to be scratched or anything and she lets me look in it..it seems to be worse at night what do u think?
My cat was having trouble with dry eyes and a little dark discharge. He was also constantly itching at them.
The vet put him on Royal Canine ISO after he had a problem with crystals. I was feeding him this food for over 4 years and realized his eye problems started around the time he was on this diet. I gradually weaned him off this food and switched to a high quality grain free food. His eyes cleared up completely and has not had a problem with them for about 3 years now.
Unfortunately he has had a reassurance with crystals and the vet wants me to put him back on RC despite this issue with his eyes. I personally don't think his urinary problem is due to diet, I was starting to give him canned food because I noticed he doesn't drink or use the litter a lot. The problem now is he won't eat their special diet canned food, he will only eat GO & Wellness. Can something be added to this food instead of feeding him Royal Canine?
Really torn about going against my vets recommendations, and I don't want him to get crystals again, but I also don't want to go back to giving him eyedrops again everyday, either.
Thank you for your answer and link.
Yes, I am worried about my cat's water intake that is why I wanted to switch him to canned food. They couldn't get him to eat the vets Royal Canine ISO canned food, so she said since he likes the dried version of this food she said it was more important for him to eat that, then a non ISO canned food, good quality or not. She doesn't think his itchy eyes and poor coat is due to the food, even though I know he was only irritated when he ate this food. She also said it is better to have irritated eyes and skin then crystals again anyways.
I'm so confused.
We have a 15 yr old Burmese. For the last couple of months, she keeps her eyes closed most of the time and opens thems only just enough to sense where she is going. She obviously moves around very slowly. The eyes tear most but not all of the time with a watery tear. She does not otherwise seem too distressed, does not paw at her eyes, eats normally etc.
We have taken her to the vet...twice. The first time he prescribed a steroid eye drop, which we applied twice a day for 5 days. There was some improvement but then reverted back to the way it was. He also said he cannot examine the eyes as the third eye(lid?) is always present.
When we took her back to the vet, he said perhaps it is dry eye, so we put artificial tears in her eyes. Still, it does not seem to make much difference.
We are at our wits end and dont know what else to do. Any advice would be most appreciated?
Just so you know...she is in indoor cat, and we live in Dubai so the aircon is on in the villa most of the time.
Our cat's right eye is bloody inside the eye, but it seems that it does not bother the cat. We had the eye checked by a veterinarian and the eye had no forseen problems, pokes or cuts. My question has any one no what he problem might be. We had eye drops (steriod) to put in the cats eye. The drops worked until be ran out. Any one know what this is?
Thank you for trying to help when I posted my previous comment question, but unfortunately it was misunderstood.
Just wanted to know why my cat is having eye problems when he is on the special vet diet for his crystals.
As soon as I take him off this food his eye problem goes away, the vet currently has him back on the vet food for a couple of weeks now and his eye problem is already reacquiring. This can not be a coincidence.
Would anyone know why this is happening?
Currently looking for another vet opinion, but just wondered if anyone has heard of this problem before.
Our cat has blue eyes. Lately one eye has turned an amber color and is very glassy looking, not clear, as though there is a cloudiness to it.
Any ideas what it could be?
My 1 yr old female cat has developed a brownish triangular patch on the lower part of her eyeball 2 days ago. She squints a little with that eye but there is no tearing, pus or inflamation. She hasn't been in a fight. Her behavior is normal. We've been treating her for worms though & she vomited a couple of days in a row about a week ago for the first time. Ideas?
I noticed this morning that one of my two cats is keeping his left eye closed and pawing at it and crying. The eyelid all around is pink. The eye itself appears to be fine. He seems to want to crouch by the curtains or under a chair. He cries and hisses a little bit when pawing at his eye. Please help! Thank you.
Hi there,
I have a 15 year old cat named shadow. Shadow went blind very gracefully about 3 months ago (we didn't even notice at first, she adapted very well) But just today we noticed that one of her eyes went cloudy and the iris which is usually yellow is now orangey red. She does not seem to be in any pain and is her normal affectionate self, but I am just wondering if you might now what this could be. She is strictly indoor and has been her whole life. Any insight would be very much appreciated. Although she is old, she has not yet told me it is time to go, so I would like to make sure she stays happy.
Thanks so much!
Thanks so much for your help!!! Her eye seems to be clearer over the last couple of days (2) and the orange colour is fading, I'm wondering if maybe our younger cat nicked her, or maybe she nicked it herself... Yes she did adapt very well!! She hit a few chair legs and wall edges in the first two days but now if you didn't know her you would never know she is blind!! She cruises up and down stairs, on and off chairs and the couch etc! I think even with her weight loss she still has some years left in her!! Thanks so much for your help!!
My 4 month old kitten just got spayed and the next day notice her left eye was cloudy..The vet not sure gave me some med for the eye. I find it interesting that every place I read a owner has had there pet to the vet for some kind of operation. Someone should check into the trauma this is and this is the cause ..put our pet out to far or something. I think it is the caused from the vet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My cat has a cloudy watery eye. Sometimes there are tears in it he squints sometimes. He doesn't paw at his eye or anything...we've taken him to the vet twice and all they say is he has a little infection and gave him eye drops...helps only a little and only temporarily. Please help I am worried!
Hi my cats eyes Have the extra eye lid thing but nothing else seems to look wrong no discharge or anything I'm worried and not really sure what's wrong with him any suggestions sorry not much help really I'm just concerned ?
My 10 year old cat Honey has had swelling in her left eye on and off for the last year. We have made numerous trips to the vet about this and they have ruled out mites, we changed her food 3 times in the last year with no reason to believe it is her food that is causing this. She itches her eye so much that it bleeds and now she is loosing her hair again in this area. I feel so aweful for her as we have to have her wear a cone so she stops scratching her eye. We are at a loss as to what to do next as the vet suggested to have her keep taking a medication to help the itching , but it doesn't see to be helping...the only thing that actually helped for about a month was having the cat take an antibiotic, with the itchy med, and an eye drop....the vet said that we cannot continue to give her an antibiotic. I don't know what else to do now....we cannot afford to keep taking her to the vet....is there anything else that can help?
I have a 6 month kitten that has been blinking quite frequently lately. His right eye has also been watery. I noticed yesterday evening that his pupil's were dilated and they have not decreased in size. He seems to be acting normal and his appetite has'nt changed, but i'm still a concerned proud pet owner. Do you have any suggestions?
My cat also has the 3rd eyelid up. I've taken him to the vet. She gave antibiotics and injection but it hasn't cleared up. Now it appears 2 other of my cats are starting the same thing. Appetites are good and no other symptoms just the eyelid. Any chance it could be allergies?
I recently adopted a kitten and had to take her to the vet because she got conjunctivitis. They gave us medication and it's been 2 weeks. A week ago I noticed yellow discharge on my other cat and rapidly started giving her the antibiotic the vet had given us for the kitten. To this day the kitten sometimes gets watery eyes and sometimes I catch her sneezing quite a few times. Not too much but enough for me to notice it. I also noticed a circular patch around her whiskers where it's red and losing hair. Is it allergies? and about my other cat, I decided to stop giving her the antibiotic because I don't know if I should...Today I just gave her some eyedrops but I can see a little bit of white discharge on one of her eyes. What should I do? :(
My Siamese cat develops a spot on the upper corner of her eye periodically. The spot develops into a raised, white and pink, plaque kind of thing. I took her to a local vet, and the vet had no idea what it was. It's not an ulcer or a tumor, and it's raised up on the cornea like some kind of white plaque. The vet tried to debride it, but it had no effect. The same spot develops, and then clears up for awhile, then redevelops. I have no idea what this could be, and it doesn't seem to be described above.
I suppose I should also mention that she also has "eye boogers" frequently and that the rim around her eyes get red pretty often. She doesn't squint or act like the plaque patch bothers her, nor when her eyes get a little red. The vet also said that she'd never seen anything like it before, so I'm thinking it's something not that common. I've just been keeping a watch on the patch, and it comes and goes. If it gets worse, I intend to take her to an eye specialist. For now, I'm mostly worried about what it could possibly be.
I forgot to write that my other cat, other than a bit of white discharge she also has watery eyes which is weird since she's never had any allergies to anything.
i rescued my cat from a shelter about 5 months ago when he was still a little kitten. when i got him i noticed he would sneeze a lot and get mucus all over his face. i took him to the vet a couple times and he got penicillin shots and antibiotics but it still hasnt gone away and he's still very snotty and sneezy but now he also walks around like he's half asleep. he keeps his eyes halfway shut and has tracks on his face from the tears that come out of his eyes. i know this is mainly an eye-problem website but i've run out of options and i'm going out of my mind with worry. he's so miserable. if there's ANYTHING you might know that could help i'll take it.
My cat Rufio is 4 years old and has never had any medical issues. Recently however, I've noticed that she squints her left eye and she has both tears and a clear almost tear-like discharge that, if left unwiped, can goop up like an eye booger. I've been monitoring her and she cleans it like usual, and her eating and sleeping habits are normal. She flinches the teary eye when i approach it with my finger so her eyesight seems fine as well. I've noticed an old looking scab a few centimeters above the edge of her eyelid, but i'm not sure if its too old to be the cause of her issue. There are no noticeable scratches on her cornea, however, when I pull her upper eyelid up gently to check, the eyelid itself looks slightly irritated and puffy on the inside. I compared it to the other eyelid and its definitely abnormal. She's been squinting and tearing-up for 2 or 3 days now and I dont know whether this is something that will work itself out or if it requires medical attention. I dont want to make the mistake of brushing it off when it could be something serious. Thoughts?
My Kitten's left pupil is a lighter color than his right eye. He's Constantly Squinting his left eye, and he rarely opens it. I'm not sure what I should do or If it's serious or not.
Hi hglick,
I noticed that you're quite well versed in cats eyes. I have a moggy who came to me from a drain (he was about 5 years old when I got him) He has been tested for many things and come up clean but his right eye bothers me. When I got him it looked like his right eye had been cut, there was a thin...sort of displacement in it, literally looked like something had cut the clear part.
About 3 weeks ago it looked cloudy in that part of the eye and I took him to a vet who said it wasn't causing him any trouble. Two days after that it looked like it had blood swirling through the cloudiness. The cloudiness was localised to the area that looked cut. The vet couldn't offer any opinions other than that it wasn't causing pain, there was no discharge and there didn't seem to be a pressure buildup either. 5 days after visiting the vet I put my cat on Revolution where previously he'd been getting Frontline and Drontal Cat wormer. The cloudiness all but cleared up and there's a thin red line where the clear line used to be. The pupil reacts to light but seems to be silver in the light. He can still see out of the eye. Should I be worried still? is this something that you have heard of?
Thanks for that hglick. I assumed it would be something that healed itself. I'm keeping a close eye on his pupil as it sometimes seems a little odd. it reacts to light but looks like it has something in it, its silvery though and could still be a bit of cloudiness rather than anything solid.
Thanks for that.
hi! i have noticed over the past week or two now that my cat is gettin gunk built up in the corners of her eyes, it is a really dark almost black color. the right eye it is kinda runny and the left eye it more solid. Ive been wiping it out and she is fine with me doing that but it always is back the next day, two at the most. She is 7 or 8 now and has never had this problem before any idea what the problem could be?
overall her behavior has been pretty normal for her, lots of sleeping and playing, and she is deffinately eating as much as always! The only things that havent been quite normal are that she missed a small jump onto the top of the computer desk which she makes all the time, and she has been bumping insto stuff a bit lately to when she turns to run away quickly from something.
Hi Hglick,
My cat is a 10-year-old Russian Blue. She's always been healthy and energetic. She had a cough recently, we took her into the vet 2 days ago and found it was just a sore throat, and in the meantime he checked her for any other health problems and found none. She's current on all her vaccinations.
She was fine last night, but this morning I woke up and saw that her pupils were strangely dilated. One of them seems to be acting normally, the other is very small/thin and reacts minimally to changes in light. She's been happy and energetic and doesn't seem to be in any pain or distress. I'm worried, though. I'm planning on taking her into the vet on Monday to get it looked at, but in the meantime, do you know what could have caused this to happen?
Thanks,
Jenna
Ever since I got back from thanksgiving break i noticed my cat with a small pupil and will not change and her eye is red and cloudy. Her other eye is starting to turn that way. I took her to the doctor and they gave her pills and eye drops but it seems to be getting worse. Is there anything that might help?

Deme, She may have an inner ear infection or is exhibiting something called Idiopathic Vestibular Syndrome. Keep a very close watch on her. If the dizziness only last for a few days she'll probably be ok. If not, there is probably something going on in her inner ear and she may need to be examined by a vet.
hglick 10 days ago
Jenna, A dilated pupil can suggest a number of problems within the eye. However, your cat's behavior suggests that it may not be serious. However, you are taking a proper precaution in having her examined.

Jessica, Take her back to the vet. Also, See:
Our 4 year old cat seems to have taken a turn for the worse and is displaying unusual behavior for about 2-3 days. We first noticed a membrane covering his left eye and at further inspection, discovered a puncture wound under his chin. There does not seem to be any swelling or blood from the area, but today while trying to eat, he starts to cry or whimper and runs away from his food, which is highly unusual. He is always displaying uncharacteristic hiding and anti-social behavior. He has always had a discharge from his 'other' eye, which will not go away, even with antibiotic cream (mostly because he won't leave it in). Please help until we can get him into the vet tomorrow. Thank you.
Correction to my last comment. He has just now since his trying to eat, gone to hide under our beds, which we have NEVER before seen him do. We are worried sick!
my 3 wek old kitten keeps getting a brown crusty gunk in it's eye. looks like it may have a scratch under eye. what can i do?
I have 2 cats - 8 year old and a recent addition 6 month old. The kitten this morning has a teary eye (clear fluid) however, the actual eye is glassy looking, with a bloody deposit between pupil and iris.
I'm thinking that they brawled a bit last night and he has received a scratch on the eye.
Should I wait and see if it gets better over the next few days, or see a vet sooner? They are both indoor cats.
Thank you for any advice you are able to give. I really do appreciate it.
hello there, I have a all white cat, first time he got an infect in both eyes my vet had to give him pensiling shots for the infection which helped soo much, but every once in a blue moon his eyes will get red well now his right eye is red he is having a hard time in the sun light with it plus it waters alot and he gets this yellow stuff an it's all red, i have been puttin eye dropped in that the vet give me the last time but i don't understand why his the only one of out my 5 some cats that gets this eye problem, does it have anything to do with his color being white in all (Blizzard is his name :) )
Hello. I have a 2 month old cat who has thick brown muck covering both of his eyes completely. We (my father and I) saved him from a home were they were starving him to death because he along with the rest of the litter were very sick. We could only manage to save 2 of them as the rest were too far gone. The other cat has a white film over one eye. They both seem fairly healthy other then this and the vet told usthat he had no idea what was wrong with them. Please help!
Our cat has had a dark brownish red discharge from his eye for about a week. I have been bathing it with warm salt water and it seemed to be a bit better for a short while but then it's back. Today I have used some antibiotic ointment to treat it and am hoping it clears up. It is only one eye and he's perfectly happy/healthy in every other respect. It may be worth me mentioning that when he comes back in from the outdoors, the discharge is back. We plan to take him to the vets but they don't open until Tuesday.
Thanks
Hello. I apologize for the bad grammar in my earlier response. I was using my phone to type it.
We originally took in all of the seven kittens and the mother. Whom all were very malnourished and sickly.
Once we brought them to the vet he diagnosed them with Upper Respiratory infections and Coccidia and gave us a few medications that we promptly put them on. We also screened the mother (Bella) for leukemia as we couldn't seem to get her to put on any weight and still to this day is fairly skinny. She came out negative.
A few weeks later five of the kittens (despite us trying out very hardest to help them to a full recovery) had passed away.
The two that are left both have notable eye problems.
Mozart (who was also the smallest out of the entire litter) seems to have never fully formed eyes.
One eye is completely black and has only a small portion of what should have been his third eyelid.
The other eye is very hard to explain as we don't even know if there is one. All that we can see is a layer of what appears to just be thick brown muck deep in his socket. I also would like to note that the socket is an odd tear drop shape and not round like the other one is.
The vet doesn't seem to know what to make of it and just told us that he's completely blind and to leave it at that until he gets older when the vet would like to have both under developed eyes surgically removed.
Other then his eye problems he has become sick quite a few times in which the vet gives us more medication and we nurse him back to health. Besides all of this he is a very rambunctious and loving kitten.
His brother (Laurent) has fully formed eyes but one has a thick white film over it. Either then that hes a very healthy kitten.
Now we just recently got another kitten that has the same father but a different mother. Her name is Kaya and she's half siamese and half tabby. She also becomes sick very often and we do the same with her as we do with Mozart.
The vet told us the Coccidia would go away by itself and to just wait everything else out.
However I just feel like there is more that could be done then to just "wait it out".
Thank You so much for helping!
my cat's one eye waters and looks like she doesnt have a eye, we can see a white thing coming out
Hello,
We are thinking about getting a new kitten. Our 16 year old cat just died recently. I visited some really cute kittens at a small, local no-kill shelter today. The friendliest, sweetest in the bunch seemed to want me to take her home. I wasn't ready to make the decision yet because I need to have the rest of my family on board. She is just under 5 months. One eye looks cloudy and different from the other. I asked one of the shelter staff about it and she didn't know the diagnosis but said that she probably has a cataract or some other eye problem. If we decide to adopt her, would you think that a cloudy eye would be an indicator of a shorter lifespan? I understand that she would need her eye checked by a vet to make a diagnosis. I just wondered in general how much this sort of eye problem could affect her quality of life or life span or if there would be any special care considerations.
Thank you!
Hello,
I have a 2 year old cat and just within the last 2 or 3 days i've noticed that her nictitating membrane has been visible in both her eyes, it won't completely go back where it's suppose to be. It has never done this before and she doesn't seem to be in any pain. There also is no type of drainage or anything coming out of her eyes. She does get those hard brownish eye boogers though...does that mean anything? I usually clean them out of her eyes.
Do you think this could be something serious?
Thanks.
Thank you very much, I will make her an appointment right away!
Are the respiratory infections very harmful?
My Siamese kitten, 6 months old, has an issue with her left eye, which comes and goes. It was present about 2 weeks ago for a day or two and has now come back again. She squints the left eye and it is a bit puffy under her eye. The corner is a little pink. She doesn't seem to be in any pain over it, but every once in a while it seems like it might be bothering her. I do see her inner eyelid right after she blinks that eye. It seems to slowly open when she opens her eye. I have called my vet to discuss this and she requested that I place a hot damp cloth over it to soothe her when it seems bothersome. Any recommendations or information you could provide is greatly appreciated! Thank you!
My new kitten has a gooey eye that's kinda red, she also keeps sneezing a lot, taking her the vet this week but does anyone think it sounds serious or just cat cold/eye infection? I hope the latter.
My kitten was diagnosed with a heart murmur when I first got her. She is maybe 7-8 months old possibly older. She has never showed signs or symptoms of the heart murmur so I never got her an ultra sound. I did have a cardio vet, but she has been checked and checked again and each vet visit they say she is healthy her blood preasure is perfect, and nothing abnormal about her other then you can feel her little heart beat through her chest. She runs around our house all the time and is active and everything. Well the issue is today I came home from work and her eye is blurry and bloodshot. I don't know if I should worry about it or not. I already spoke with the vets but they can not see her until tomorrow night. But I am freaking out in the meantime. I don't know if the heart murmur and eye are related...or if she probably just scratched it. I have 2 other cats that are much bigger than her and they play all the time. both are declawed but have back claws, so they could have scratched her as well. Can you please help.
Hi. My cat recently had a thin milky white film covering half her eyes. She still has this and she squints even in a dark room. We let her out whenever she wants, and I believe she's around 10 years old. My mother asks what she's supposed to do about in a nasty way, but my cats not lookin so hot. Her doggy friend recently passed away, and she's been sad ever since. Of course, other people in my family can touch her, but only I can pick her up or get her to follow me. Please, I do need some help, as she's the last of her liter. She also has a small green thing growing out of her bottom. Sorta in and out. She also sneezes occasionally. Think you so much!
My cats eyes have started to close with the white protective eye lid closing over both of them. She is only eating the jelly from her food I am worried.

Hi. I am extremely concerned about my ~2 month old kitten. She has a lot of thick, yellowish-green mucus discharge coming out of her right eye, and it tends to glaze over a little (become teary), and sometimes there's so much mucus her eye can't open very much for the past ~week. I clean it often but I'm afraid that she's got something. Her litter mate has nothing wrong and they both live together within my house. Despite this, she runs around and plays with her sister and mother and has a ton of energy, so I know she's healthy. I think it may be pinkeye, and I'm not sure how to treat it. At the moment, I have no money to afford a vet. I have eye drops for humans and was wondering if I could put a little in her eye? Would it help clear things up? I don't want to see her looking sad any longer!
Please help me out here...
my kitty cat mollie was playing with a spider in the floor earlier, she does this quite often. i checked out the spider and it looked like a common house spider (i compared to photos of venomous spiders.) but once i threw the spider out i noticed that she kept blinking one eye over and over. i looked at it closer and it had an abnormal amount of clear liquid in it and in the corner of the eye. she keeps closing just that one eye and when she does open it its not for long. i havent noticed it to be this bad before, but now that i think about it she has always blinked this eye more. what do you think this could be? (the discharge is always clear, shes only a year old and hasn't had any medical problems.)
My one year old cat Lily has a constant squint in her eyes and when she goes to drink she dumps her water everywhere from bumping her paw into it which is not like her. She has recently started pooping and peeing in other rooms of the house even though she is very well potty trained ans never has any accidents. We have a male cat whom she no longer gets along with and their baby kitten they conceived together. I am worried that in play time or a fight her eye was badly damaged. has anyone experienced this? how do I help my baby girl its breaking my heart. she also has alot of goopy discharge in her eyes
hi my kitten has what appears to be a smudge on the lens of her right eye she doesn't seem to notice it most of the time, but she does she looks like she is pouncing at nothing in random circles. any ideas?
Hello,
My cat's right is closed today, and it's red around the edges and on the eye as well for some reason. Want to catch the problem early if possible. Don't have a lot of money around of vet bills. Added a couple photo's below of the eye.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Thank you so much! That's very helpful! Seems like there are many reasons for cat eye problems. Thanks for taking a look too.
THANKS!
Hello again!
The cat every once in a while has a little green snot like substance just outside the eye. Is that a clear sign of something?
Thanks again
Hi!
I recently got my first kitten with my boyfriend. He's been doing great, is incredibly smart and playful, and just the sweetest guy. This morning I noticed that he had a whitish film on the inside corners of his eyes, which I'm pretty sure is his "third eyelid". I've read that this is a sign of a problem but he's not really showing symptoms of anything else. He's playing, eating (I think he's eating enough, but I have nothing to compare it to)and running around all the time. He's getting bigger by the day and has had his litter box down since day one. Since he's come home I've heard him sneeze maybe three times, and sometimes in the morning or after a nap he'll have some light green gooey stuff in the corner of his eye which I'll wipe away with a warm wet cotton ball. Should I be worried? Thanks!
Hi, I recently moved to my new house and quickly learned my neighbor is an animal hoarder! I mean cats and dogs galore! Today I found a litter of kittens in our garage and 2 of them are sick! One looks like it's eye is hanging out of it's face but it just crusted black and puss-y. I've already reported this to the local animal control and they are calling the ASPCA. I just have never seen anything like this and because the kittens are on my property, they're "my problem" I plan to bring them to the humaine society tomorrow but didn't know what it could be or what I could do to possible help it.
I have been reading and reading and havent found any helpful info in my case. Really hoping someone can give me some helpful info.
My sons 8 yr old, male indoor only cat is having some eye issues, what is wrong i have no idea. Here is what is going on, yesterday morning his eyes, looked as if they were rolled back in his head. they were rolled up and to the outside on both eys. Hello, I have two kittens that are 3 weeks old their mom got hit by a car and they were on my uncles farm so I took them home with me. gave them a bath and noticed they had lice I took them to the vet and they gave me some sprayto gentley use on them.she said they were healthy just a little under weight.she also deworm them. Yesterday one of their eyes was crusty and almost shut I thought maybe I got soap in it or it got scratched.I wiped it clean and it look alot better hardley can tell.now the other kitten has it in the same eye I did the same, wiped it with warm water and papertowel looks way better.I just took them to the vet and really cannot afford to take them again this soon! Any advice
would be do helpful.thanks
I forgot to mention the discharge/crust is like a yellowish light brown color.thanks so much again
Thank you so much for the info.
My rag doll has always seemed "stuffy" and she snores to the point where she seems to be struggling to breath at times. She keeps a brown discharge from her eyes. We've had her to the vet for this as well as keeping her regular check ups. She always gets a clean bill of health. At my insistence that something wasn't right with her, they prescribed a steroid that did not bring about any improvement. She seems to be getting worse & isn't interested in playing like she used to be...she seems to tire easily. Now, the fur around her eyes has lightened. Any thoughts on what may be going on with her?
I adopted a female cat from a friend of a fiend that was confined to a wheelchair due to MS and could no longer take care of her. I didnt realize it for some time that she is deaf. I have no idea how old she is - between 8 and 18 is all I know. She has progressivley been loosing her eyesite. Within the last two weeks - she has gone totally blind. She has almost golden eyes and looks just like Garfield. Recently I installed a window airconditioner. Queen appeared to catch a cold. Her eyes have been watering and looks terrible. I was concerned that the airconditioner had some type of mold present as it had been stored in a extremely damp - moldy smelling basement. I ceased using it and cleaned the filter and any exposed parts with hot hot water and saturated it with Lysol. In two days her eyes seem to be improving and she igns of feeling much better. This morning her eyes looked much better and alsmost quit watering. I left for about two or three hours. Upon returning, her right eye was solid black and both were watering slightly. Several hours later, her right eye has started to slightly regain some color. My fiance was suddenly hit with renal cell carsonoma (Kidney cancer) in Dec. and had to have his kidney removed. No insurance and unable to work. I have been suppporting the household the best I can. I cant afford to take her to the vet. Not that I dont want to incovience myself, I would gladly do without something to help her quality of life. Its all I can do to buy her the kind of food she likes and her favorite treats. I lost my bird of 18 years at Christmas, almost lost my fiance and now my cat has me so worried. I dont think I can bear to loose her right now, so I need some advice on what I can do to help her. She eats a lot but not obease. Mostly licks the gravey till the remainder of the food is dry and drinks a lot of water. I was only able to get internet last week. The need to get it was to research medical avenues for my fiance and now for my cat. I dont thionk either will make it too much longer if I dont take some action. The more I have researched m cats symptions thie past couple of days I think sha may have kidney and blood pressure problems. I am rally concerned about the sudden black color of her one eye and what can I do?
Hello!
I have inherited my parets 18 year old VERY persnickity cat. After going to the vet for her annual shave, one eye had small red scabs around it and was draining orange pus. I took her to the vet who was not able to properly examine the eye to Miss Kitty's intimidating ferocious behaviour. The vet prescribed antibiotics and cleaning. The eye cleared up almost immediately but I completed the full 7 days with the antibiotics. Her eye has been fine for three weeks now. However, yesterday we were back to scabs, orange goop and now both ears are draining bloody wax. She is eating, drinking and moving around normally but this worries me. Mostly because her ears are also affected this time. While I was cleaning her ears, I noticed that the ears themselves felt like sandpaper and the skin was very flaky. Any ideas? I have the rest of the antibiotic from before and would like to avoid another trip to the vet as she is becoming almost too expensive but I do not want to let something fester if it is serious. Also, the scabs around the eye are exactly the same size, shape and position as before. I thought the first time she may have scratched her eye, but I highly doubt she would have scratched herself inthe exact four places in the exact shape and size as before.
my cats eye isa bit red and something like an eyelid is covering some of her eye. her pupil is a lighter color then the other one.
its cloudy
So there is a cat that always hangs out around my house, I feed her and recently she had baby's. One cat that is white was born with a green and blue eye and a vet said that was normal when I came across one I asked. Right now I have no money to take it to the vet but it seems like one eye cannot be found. Her eyes started getting puss and close ... So I started opening them for her but there is one eye now that when I try to clean all I see is pink inside... And no sign of her eyeball. She eats fine and it all started when her eye started going sideways... Now the eye closes a lot and is pink in the outside as well. And her other eye seems pink now too... What happen to her eye and why? Willbit heal by itself? Or will she go blind? I heard contacts liquid is good to disenfect .. Is that true?
What is wrong with it? It brakes my heart to separate her from her mom, they are always playing together ...
My seven year old cat suffers from allergies (food, seasonal, dust, alot of differnt triggers). She was diognosed as a kitten and her primary sympton is eye irritation. Because of her constant reaction to something my vet suggested only treating her allergies during extreme reactions. As a result her eyes are always watery or crusty and we clean them daily. Lately we have noticed a thick white almost scar like tissue covering her eyes. We took her to the vet (a new one-we just moved)and the vet had no ideas other than to rule out corneal ulcers. Could this be scar tissue or cataracts from the constant irritation? She does not appear to be in pain but does show some signs of light sensitivity.
i noticed it just now n i am hell worried...my siamese cat is three months old and today she has some blood like clouding over half of her left eye...but there is no tears nor she is effected by the light...her both eyes are equally open and she still very playfull.. but that blood is making me very nervous...what should i do?
We had a little girl cat adopt us about a month ago and she was pregnant when she arrived at our home. The kittens are 2 weeks old now and all are doing well. But, one of them has an issue with one eye. There is a large, hard scab like patch over it's eye. Today when I checked on them there seems to be puss oozing out of the bottom of it and the patch is getting larger. How do I help this little kitty?
your comment has been most help full since I got a kitten last night that lived under a porch most of the time and it's eyes were bleeding and I have been wiping it with worm water and it woke up with them glued closed. but one thing instead of toothpicks why not Q-tips?
I have taken in a feral cat who gave birth in my dads yard. I had her (and her kittens) fixed and got her a full work up of shots and de-worming. I have decided to keep her hoping to domesticate her at the very least allow her to be a "garage kitty" I don't have very much cat knowlage at all...
I notice one of her eyes has a glassy mirror like appearance all the time almost glowing kind of like what their eyes do when light is shined in their eyes but all the time in dark and day light and its just one of her eyes. The pupil does seem to be very very slightly larger, but her eyes seem to dialate and shrink at the same time under the same circumstances... should I take her in for this? Any ideas? For the sake of knowing, she is only about 8 or 9 months old.
Thank you!
I have recently noticed that my cat's eye glows green in the light. Its only one of her eyes and she seems able to see out of it ok, but there is a dark browny-red patch to the outside of her eye. I think she may have bumped her eye the day before i noticed this because it was fully closed. She's around 3 or 4 months old and im really worried about her.
Thanks.
Hi, Our cat just had kittens about 9 days ago and one of te kittens has only one eye opened none of the other kittens have any opened eyes yet should i b concerned
Hello, thanks for this thread. My kitten received her distemper vaccination 3 days ago and the vet said she had a slight apPearance of conjunctivitis. They gave her some erythromycin ointment in both eyes and she hated it. We watched her for awhile and she seemed fine but when we returned about an hour later she had rubbed her right bottom eyelid raw and it is swollen and hairless! We put an e collar on her 2 days ago but the swelling doesn't seem to be going down. any suggestions? I don't want her to suffer but I also don't want to stress her out more with another trip to the vet. Anything practical I can do to help w the swelling?
I just noticed that my cat has a swollen eye (top and bottom eyelids) and when I looked in his eye it looks like he has a contact lens folded in half, in his eye towards the top outside corner. He had some discharge from it but no active discharge now... what could this be? The thing that looks like a contact lens is clear... I'm worried and my vet is closed :o(
My beloved 4 year old female Sphynx cat has suddenly developed a small oblong black spot just along the side of her pupil so that from afar it looks like the pupil has changed shape. Up close, you can see the spot is just overlapping the pupil and slightly above the pupil. Im very worried and will take her to the vet Monday morning. Any hope this is something benign?
Thank you. Weird thing is that when we woke up this morning the spot on my cat's pupil was gone!! I am positive it was not something ON her eye but seemed to be IN her eye. We will be closely watching her. Thanks again.
my 1 year old indoor cat has had a brown crusty build up in the corner of one or both of her eyes now for a couple months. she has been to the vet twice and received antibiotic injections which seem to help for a week or two, then the discharge comes back. there doesn't seem to be irritation or redness inside the eye, and she seems healthy except for a little sneeze very occasionally. if this is a minor respiratory infection why does it keep returning? is there anything i can do besides bringing her in to the vet all the time? (going broke!) thanks much!
so my 3 yr old cat has green goop nd drainage coming out of her eye is it poss that the 5 month old kitten scratched her eye? if so how long till it heals?
I got my kitten on the 19th of August from the pound he was 8 weeks old. He has never been a frisky kitty ad likes to be sleep alot and doesn't eat a whole lot for the past 3 days he's had book coming out of his rich eye only what should do?
Hi, my cat's eye is bloodshot and she only opens it halfway.
I noticed it about two days ago, and rinsed her eye with water today.
what could be the problem?
you can visibly see bloodshot-ness in the colored part of her eye (blue.)
Hi, my 3 months old kitten is scratching her left eye and suddenly when I look at it her left eyelid is swelling, I tried to stop the scratching by putting a cone like shape on her head so she won't scratch it and after a while the swelling got better but the tears don't stop, I remove the cone on her head, but she scratches it again and the swelling came back again. I'm really concerned about my cat and I'm not that familiar with the causes. Will she be able to see again and how can I stop the swelling? I saw this hub a good site so I thought you can help me on my cat's case.
I will really appreciate your help, Thank You!
I have a cat with one runny eye that has occasional yellow puss. I would like to clean it with boric acid solution. I have the powder and would like to know the ratio of powder to water?
For the past month my kitten has had an eye problem with just one eye. I got her when she was 2 months and her eyes were fine. Took her for her first shots, a week later she
developed issues in one eye, watery & 3rd eyelid showing a little. Vet put her on an antibiotic. It went away for a few days and came back after done with medicine. Vet put her back on antibiotic for double amount of time, and also eye ointment. After two weeks of that it seemed to go away. A couple days after she was done with anti-biotic, the eye condition comes back again. She acts totally normal, except for the squinting, watering and 3rd eyelid showing a little. What should I do? What is happening?
My cat Romeo has a clear, thick liquid coming out of his right eye. He is a indoor cat (only). His normal behavior has not changed. He has had it for a week it hasn't got better or worse. I have not been able to take him to the vet. I am concerned. Please help me.
We have an inherited cat and live in the caribbean The cat is probably between 1-2 years old sometimes the Left eye is widely dilated whereas the right eye appears normal .As the cat was feral for a time and also appears to have been abused(used to shy away(now very affectionate) but the tail looks as though it has been shortened??cut Just wondering if the cat is affected by Toxoplasmosis
Hi Hglick
no other side effects at all otherwise healthy cat!just left eye dilated some of the time right eye normal most peculiar. If the cat was human with a bang on the head `Id be very worried maybe its some form of congenital problem!

I have a domestic long hair cat and she has a red or rust discharge from both eyes, I have in the past cleaned these off of her but she HATES ma doing anything with her eyes, she fites me as much as she can and noe whenever I reach out my hand to her she will dodge my hand, thinking that I am going to do something to her face or eye. Is this discharge normal or is it a real problem that needs to be adressed?
Thanks for your advice.
Take care and God bless.
Patrick
My cat's eyes looked clouded over in a picture recently, but when I look at her with naked eyes her eyes are very clear with no discharge. She is 14 years old, though you'd never know it by the way she acts, and has never lived outside, but it is "allergy season." Could she have an allergy or is it possible she is developing cataracts? As an RN that photo looked so much liked bilateral cataracts in a human, it scares me.
hi my his cat is almost 4 yr old he mainly stays in but wanders the neighbors yard once a night tonite he came back n his 3rd eyelids were showing in both eyes hes his normalself but im conserned about them all of a sudden showing what should i do please help
Our 13 yr old cat starting bleeding from the eye about 5 weeks ago. I thought at first she had scratched it as it did not bleed everyday. AFter about a week, I took her to our local vet that said he had not seen anything like it and was hoping it was a cut that wouldn't heal. He gave her a antibiotic shot. We are now 3 weeks after the shot and sometimes it looks ok-not great-and others like tonight blood is dripping on the floor. Any ideas? Please help.
something is wrong with my cat... im scared. i went to class this afternoon at 6 and she was fine, when i got home at 9:30 she was squinting and there is a clear discharge i can see her inner eyelid thing its in the bottom corner of her eye and is sticking out. i dont have money for a vet.. i dont know what to do.
Hi! I just recently took in a stray cat from a friend of mine who had no other choice but to give it to an animal shelter so I took her off her hands. Sadly, my new kitty has a definite eye problem. It honestly looks infected. It is draining mucusy, whitish, liquid (probably to flush the eye of bacteria or something), as well as definite clouding in the center of the eye (it is blue when looked into in direct light), and slight swelling around the eye. It is clear to me that she is partially if not completely blind in that eye. I don't have money to see a vet until next Wednesday so I was hoping you could help me make her as comfortable as possible until then, and maybe lend some insight to this problem. Thank you for your time. :)
Hello.I have been caring for an outdoor (feral) cat for four years. She ("Leo") is semi approachable at this point, it's taken a lot of time and effort to make her somewhat friendly. I noticed a few days ago that the membrane in the left eye was prominent. She is not showing any signs of discomfort, no discharge, no swelling, no rubbing. It would be impossible for me rub ointment in her eye or take her to a vet. I have no trouble giving her pills using treats and food. Is there anything I can give her orally, (antibiotics?), that could help? I also have indoor cats, so I have a supply of cat meds available.
I have quite an old cat and from what I believe she is showing signs of conjunctivitis. It is constantly watering or discharging something. Her eye won't open either at all or it's only open slightly, never fully. It's very red and sensitive to light. She's showing no signs of it being in pain and I've never seen her paw or rub it. However she does show signs of upper respiratory infection, she is constantly sneezing.
What treatment can I give her if I can't afford the vet? I'm aware she's very old, of about 16 years but is there something I can do to help her?
A stray had a litter in my yard, and I brought in the two kittens once they were weaned to get them socialized etc in hopes of finding them homes. They are playful, friendly, eat/poop well, but both sound as if they have an URI (sneezing, occasional rattle with purr) and have a thick dark discharge around their eyes and, to a lesser extent, the nares. I plan to purchase a small carrier and take them to my local vet on my next day off, but was wondering if this discharge rang any bells. I have had to remove it daily for the past three days upon returning home from work.
what does it mean when a kitty has its
eyes shut
hi, my cat gave birth to 4 kittens and 3 of them have all opened their eyes just fine but one of them only has one eye open and each time i clean it open it closes the next day. is already been more than 2 weeks since they been born.
Hello
my cat has a sticky geen like discharge from his left eye only. I was sitting with him and saw his eye water up and this light green discharge run out of his eye down his nose. I wiped it off ok , he did not mind. He is eating fine and acting normal. Last year he had an eye infection in same eye( conjunctivitis) and we were given ointment and it cleared up. I thought he had the same thing again as the discharge looked the same so I took him to my vets yesterday( discharge had been going on about 4 days) and told the vet about the discharge and they checked his eyes and said nothing was wrong. He also had his full yearly body check too which came back fine. His eye had the discharge thing again last night. I do not know what to do as my vet said his eyes were fine. I have looked at his eyes and they do look healthy, no redness and the whites are white( last time the white bit was red during his infection). My cat is 11 years old . Could the vet be wrong? Or am I just worrying about nothing? He does not hold his eye funny or scratch it or squint. He is not sneezing or anything or does not have any other signs of illness. Any advice would be great, thanks.
I have a kitten he is a rescue..he is about 10 weeks old and I have had him for almost two weeks. the past 3 days I have noticed a problem with his left eye...it waters some and looks a little smaller than the right one. He blinks alot and only the problematic eye blinks. I'm worried that he may be in pain. Any suggestions?
Thank you. His eye is not red at all.....what else do you think it may be?
Haya,
Ive got a little problem and hopeing you could help!!
Ive got a 13 week kitten and has just started having some brownish discharge from him eyes, ive been cleaning it with hot water but a few hours later and its back again :/ his eyes are not red though they look fine, could you please advice what u think it might be and if there is anything i could use at home to help him :)
Thanks
Thank you so much. You have ben very helpful!
My newborn Kitten's eye is smaller then the other. All the other Kittens are fine and so is she otherwise. She can see out of it, no irritation and no sign of infection or scratch. It's just flat out smaller then her other eye. Granted they only opened them up a week ago. She (they) are perfectly healthy. So my question is, is the eye thing normal, will it gradually get better and open up more.....ect?
P.S. For the record, She is not in pain and doesn't rub at it. No crust, puss, redness or watery-ness at all. I swear it's just smaller then her other eye. I figure if it doesn't get normal I'm gonna bring her to vet but I'm wondering if it's normal.
Thanks. I'm almost positive the eye will grow or err... Get normal as she gets older. Anyway, thanks again =)
Yesterday morning we noticed our cat's left eye is swollen and has a white film on it. His right eye isn't swollen, but he looks out of it. He won't come around us and he's acting extremely scared. He's usually very sweet and affectionate. Do you think he got hit in the eye or ate something? We don't know what to do :(
my cat is around 6 months old yesterday we noticed his eye had a filmy or cloudy look to it. it seems to be a diffrent color not red just a darker color which may just be the film or whatever is on his eye causing it. what do you think could be the cause of this and what should we do?
Hi, i have a 6 weeks and 4 days kitten and i noticed that she uses alot of her senses and hearing to get around and to play... she has greyish eyes with hint of very light blue but i notice some places seems to have a touch of white... anyways, i play with her and she doesn't always seem to be able to follow the toy or my hands very well... she uses her paws to feel more... and doesn't notice my son coming until she feels him really nearby then runs away.... either even nearsighted? and i put my fingers on each side of her head to notice if she sees both fingers but she only sees my left finger which is her right eye... she never notices the right finger with her left eyes... the other kittens who were born from same batch have no problem whatsoever...so, are those signs of being half blind? or should i wait a lil longer.... thanks!
My cat has cloudy eyes but no discharge. She also has the third eyelids coming out more than normal in the corner of her eyes, her toilets have been runny but i think that could be due to change of dry to wet food.
Any ideas?
Hi, I've just got a 9 week old kitten today and as the day has gone on, I have noticed that he is not really opening his right eye much. There's no discharge, it looks the same colour as his left eye and it's not cloudy. He hasn't eaten or drank anything since he's been here but has been sick once and has slept pretty much most of the time. I am a bit worried that it's a bit more than just settling in. Please help.
My kitty,he's not even a year old yet,has a cloudy eye and his eyelid is hairless. He is kind of squinting out of it.My family is getting really scared.Just 3 days ago he tried to climb my christmas tree so my baby brother sprayed him with water,it got his eye accidentally. We dot know if that had anything to do with it but we are really scared. Please help:(
Okay thank you so much!
i have some cats outside and i saw that one of their cat friends looked like they were missing an eye. So then i thought mabe it lost it fighting but then i see a smaller cat with the same thing. Is there a breed of cat that is missing the right eye or is it an eye problem that i can help with.
I have had my cat for 3 years and she has had a chronic problem with her eye watering. It will go away for a few months then come back. I have taken her to the vet two times and they just give her a different medicine (neo-poly-bac hydro), but it comes back again in a few months. Her eye is not red at all and she lets me wipe it with a tissue. She her behavior doesn't change when her eye waters. She acts normal.
My cat is 12 years old and recently his eyes have been very shiny, like two flashlights, during the night and sometimes at day time too. It doesn't look like he has any film or gray cover, nor crossed. What can be the reason?
Thank you
Thank you very much!
